Waking up feeling stiff is extremely common, especially if you work out the day before. In this video, I’m going to show you the 4 best stretches to do every morning to help loosen up and increase your flexibility for the rest of the day.

Why stretch in the morning? Because overnight we’re reinforcing tightness from the day before.

Hip Hinge - Dynamic Stretch for Hamstrings

(starts at 1:25)

5 reps - don’t want to overstretch the hammies, but they are chronically tight for many people

learn 2 things at once - get through the hamstrings, and learn the hip hinge

often we bend down from the knees, but we need to hinge from the hips

For this one:

You should feel a good stretch in your hamstrings from this

The point is not to statically stretch the hamstrings, but to warm them up

Squat - Stretch Arms, Groin, and Hip Flexors

(starts at 2:30)

For this one:

This helps stretch the biceps, which stay in a bent position overnight for hours

The main goal of this stretch is to loosen up the hips and groin

Overhead Leaning Lunge - Stretch Hip Flexors and Open Up the Thoracic Spine

(starts at 3:24)

Standing Shoulder Stretch - Externally Rotate Shoulders and Loosen the Deltoids
